The Election Commission (EC) has postponed the election of the Bandar upazila in Narayanganj for three months due to a complexity over boundary demarcation.
The commission took the decision as per the High Court’s directive and, through a letter, asked the officials concerned to postpone all activities of this upazila’s polls, an EC official said yesterday.
On April 23, the commission postponed elections of the Rangabali upazila in Patuakhali for similar reasons. Earlier, on April 16, the commission announced it would hold elections in 14 upazilas, including Bandar and Rangabali, on May 19.
However, elections of the remaining 12 upazilas will still be held on that day. Out of 487, elections of 459 upazilas were held from February 19 to March 31 in five phases across the country.
