BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s planned meeting with leaders of its affiliated organisations ended in a mess yesterday as scores of activists showed up to the meeting venue in the capital.
Ignoring a directive to delegate only one or two representatives, hundreds of leaders and members of pro-BNP organisations, many of which exist in name only, started to gather in front of the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office from early morning.
When Mirza Fakhrul reached the party office and saw the huge crowd, he was taken by surprise and left the area without holding the meeting which was scheduled for 10am.
“It was to be an indoor meeting. I saw a huge number of people there – I do not know who they are – and I did not hold the meeting,” Fakhrul said.
