Jamaat man injured in ‘shootout’ with police

An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami has received bullet wound in his left leg in a “gunfight” with police early Tuesday.

Muhaid Hussain, 28, is former president of Fatepur union unit Islami Chhatra Shibir and an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.

Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police, Jessore said police raided a garbage at Hamidpur area during a secret meeting of the Jamaat-Shibir activists around 4am.

Sensing the presence of police, the Jamaat-Shibir supporters opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back. Muhaid Hussain received bullet would during the “gunfight,” she added.

“Police arrested Shibir activist Habibullah and Aminur from the spot and recovered a shooter gun and a bullet,” said the ASP.

Muhaid Hussain claimed that the police shot him in the leg after calling him out from his residence.
