At least 15 people have been injured in a clash between the activists of Awami League and Chhatra League over a trivial matter in Chandraganj Bazar area of Lakshmipur sadar upazila on Friday night.
The injured, including Chandraganj unit Chhatra League President Bablu, have been admitted to local health complex.
Meanwhile, BCL unit of Chandraganj blocked the Dhaka-Lakshmipur highway from 9am to 10am on Saturday.
Chandraganj Police Investigation Centre In-Charge Abu Taher said: “A BCL activist went to the shop of one Nupur, who is an AL member. But, he engaged in an altercation with Nupur as he found the jug empty and slapped Nupur.
Later, they called an arbitration over the matter. At one stage of argument, the activists of AL and BCL locked into clashes around 10pm, leaving 15 people injured on both sides,” he added.
Upon receiving information from the locals, police rushed in and take the situation under control around 2am.
Later, additional police have been deployed in the area in order to avert further untoward situation, said police.
