Yesterday, Jatiya Party’s Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader said Ershad and his wife Rawshan Ershad, also party presidium member and the leader of the opposition in the parliament, would jointly select candidates competing in the reserved seats instead of conducting interviews. They would list candidates and send it to the Election Commission soon, he said.
“It was not possible to nominate all of the 96 aspirants for the six posts of MP. Therefore, both of them would decide.” Denying the allegation that JaPa nominates candidates for reserved seats in exchange of financial benefits, Howlader said, “When a major party takes a major decision, some allegations arise, it is nothing unusual.”
In response to a query regarding the ongoing conflict between Ershad and Rawshan Ershad, Howlader said it was “false and rootless.”
The decision to drop the interview session to select candidates for the women MP’s election has triggered dissatisfaction among the aspirants.
The interviews of 96 aspirants were scheduled to take place at Party Chief Ershad’s political office at 11am yesterday.
Although the nomination seekers and Ershad went there on time, Ershad did not conduct any interview.
