Update : 18 Nov 2013, 04:24 PM

The main opposition BNP will stage a programme of countrywide protest on November 22 against the formation of the all-party “polls-time” cabinet.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the city on Monday night.

He said: “We will observe the programme protesting the formation of the all-party cabinet and demanding the unconditional release of all leaders and activists, and insisting the polls be held under caretaker government.”

Earlier in the day, six new ministers and two state ministers took the oath to be the part of the all-party cabinet. Of the ministers, two are from Awami League, five from Jatiya and one from the Workers Party.

The new ministers are Awami League Advisory Council Members Tofail Ahmed, Amir Hossain Amu, President of Workers Party Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Party’s Presidium Member Rawshan Ershad, Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar and Anisul Islam Mahmud.

The state ministers are Jatiya Party Presidium Members Mojibul Haque Chunnu and Salma Islam.

“A 20-member delegation led by party chief Khaleda Zia is set to pay visit to the president on Tuesday evening,” said the BNP acting secretary general. However, he did not mention any name in this regard.

President Abdul Hamid has given an appointment to BNP chief Khaleda Zia for Tuesday evening as the opposition party has sought his time in expressing their views on the latest political developments.
