Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu has applied to have his trial at the International Crimes Tribunal broadcast live on television in a case over crimes against humanity, including murder, incitement and conspiracy, linked to the July–August Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Kushtia.

The application was submitted through his counsel on Wednesday to the judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, during the recording of testimony in the case.

Inu’s lawyer, Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, made the plea on his behalf. Prosecutor Mizanul Islam is conducting the case for the prosecution, assisted by Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed and others.

On the day, Sakhawat Hossain, former deputy district magistrate of Kashimpur Jail-2, testified for the fifth consecutive day. He is the fifth prosecution witness and a witness to the seizure list. He first gave his testimony on November 15.

Earlier, on December 15, testimony was also recorded from Shahed Jobayer Lawrence, a sub-inspector of the CID’s Digital Forensic Lab and the fourth witness in the case. He was cross-examined by Inu’s counsel after giving his statement.

Prior to that, SI Md Kamrul Hossain testified on December 7 as a seizure list witness, while Special Investigation Officer and Prosecutor Tanvir Hasan Joha, the second witness, was cross-examined on December 2 after giving testimony a day earlier.

The case stems from incidents in Kushtia city during the July–August movement in 2024, when gunfire allegedly killed six people — workers Ashraful Islam and Suruj Ali Babu, students Abdullah Al Mustaqin and Usama, businessman Bablu Farazi, and employee Yusuf Sheikh — and injured many others.

Following the investigation, the prosecution submitted formal charges against Inu, bringing eight charges in total.
