The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has summoned Maj Gen (retd) Ziaul Ahsan to appear before it on August 27 in a crimes-against-humanity case over the disappearance of BNP leader and current Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in 2015.
The tribunal passed the order on Monday after hearing a prosecution petition seeking proceedings against the former army officer in the case.
The prosecution later said it had filed an application against Ziaul in connection with Salahuddin's disappearance. The tribunal accepted the application and ordered him to appear on August 27.
Ziaul is currently arrested in connection with several other crimes-against-humanity cases.
Salahuddin filed a complaint with the Chief Prosecutor's Office on June 3, 2025, accusing seven people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over his disappearance.
The other accused are former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, Maj Gen (retd) Ziaul Ahsan and former head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Monirul Islam.
Salahuddin, a BNP leader, was allegedly picked up from a house in Uttara, Dhaka, on the night of March 10, 2015.
He was later found by local police in Shillong, Meghalaya, India, on May 11 that year.
After he was arrested in India, authorities filed a case against him under the country's Foreigners Act for allegedly entering India without valid documents.
Salahuddin returned to Bangladesh on August 11, 2024, after spending more than nine years in India. His return followed the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, 2024, during the mass uprising.
