The 48-hour shutdown called by the Jamaat-e-Islami began under a tight security blanket in the capital on Wednesday morning.
However, an autorickshaw driver was killed in Noakhali and two policemen were hurt during clashes with picketers in Comilla.
The strike was called after the appellate bench of Supreme Court revised a prior life-term ruling of Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla to death sentence on Tuesday.
Picketers brought out a procession and blasted a few handmade bombs in Mirpur's Pallabi area around 6:30am in the morning.
Pallabi police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Latif Sheikh told the Dhaka Tribune that three people were arrested while fleeing after blasting the bombs.
According to witnesses, handmade bombs were also exploded near Titumir College in Mohakhali.
However, no other major untoward incidents were reported until 9am.
Law enforcers have been deployed in all key points throughout the capital. Platoons of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) were seen patrolling streets and police were seen checking passers-by and vehicles in several areas.
Inter-city traffic was thin, but was gaining as the day progressed. Rickshaws and auto-rickshaws occupied the streets mostly along with a few private cars.
Public transports on the routes of Mirpur, Dhanmondi, Motijheel, Mohakhali, Gabtoli, Jatrabari, Sayedabad, Farmgate, Paltan and other key areas were seen on the streets in significant numbers.
Long route buses were at halt, however, authorities said train operations were normal since morning.
Meanwhile, Ganajagaran Mancha has announced to bring out its customary processions in the morning hours of both Wednesday and Thursday.
