Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi has accused the National Citizen Party (NCP) of co-opting the July uprising.
He made the statement at an emergency press conference held at 11:30am on Saturday at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University.
He said that the NCP has made three mistakes: they have co-opted July, many of their members have become corrupt, and they have destroyed unity.
Referring to Adviser Mahfuj Alam, Hadi said at the press conference: "He posts whatever comes to mind. Then deletes it three hours later. Then comes and apologizes. Brother, if you're emotional, then do drama, do art. Who told you to become an adviser?"
Osman bin Hadi said that if the Yunus government leaves or moves toward elections without trials and reforms, civil war will soon break out in the country.
He said: "Without a July Proclamation, India and the Awami League will slaughter the July martyrs' families and those who participated in this movement. If there is a July Proclamation, the decision to ban the Awami League will be implemented.”
He added: “Those within this government who want the Awami League have suffered moral defeat through the ban. Their ultimate defeat will come when the July Charter is created."
He claimed that the government and the army are currently in a confrontational position. The statement given by the army chief is clearly a political statement.
He also commented that many officers of the Bangladesh Army are beneficiaries of the Awami League.
At the press conference, Hadi further said that many in this government want to stay in power by using Dr Yunus's reputation. Many within this government have already become corrupt.
