Nurul Islam Saddam, secretary general of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, has claimed that after the fall of "Awami fascism," the party is using online threats and secret meetings to destabilize the country and disrupt law and order through targeted killings.
He made the claim on Monday, during a human chain organized by the Dhaka metropolitan branch of Shibir in front of the National Press Club, demanding the restoration of law and order across the country.
He highlighted the need to swiftly identify those responsible for Awami "fascism" and bring them to justice.
Saddam said: “We have observed that over the past two to three months, the law and order situation in the country has been gradually deteriorating. We urge the senior officials of the government and the law enforcement agencies to be more proactive in ensuring the safety of the public’s lives and property.”
He further said: “In the past two months, 336 extrajudicial killings have occurred. Nearly 797 incidents of robbery and 104 cases of rape have been reported.”
He added: “The law and order situation in this country should have been managed better after the July uprising, but we are seeing a lack of firmness and effectiveness from the government. We urge the government to take immediate and effective action.”
Appealing to citizens, he said: “We must establish community initiatives in every area to socially resist robbers, extortionists, and rapists.”
“Just like the fascist was ousted during the July uprising, if we unite and organize a strong movement again, these criminals will have no place to escape. This country is ours, and we must step forward to protect its sovereignty,” he added.
