The government has decided to deploy the army in six districts to help maintain law and order surrounding the founding anniversary of the Awami League.
The initial deployment will cover Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Faridpur, Gopalganj and Chittagong.
The letter said there are concerns that various organizations may attempt to create sabotage and disorder through illegal processions, showdowns and other programs in different parts of the country. Such activities could lead to a deterioration of the overall law and order situation and cause significant losses to life and property.
Under the circumstances, the authorities have been requested to take necessary measures to deploy army personnel from June 22 to June 30 in the Dhaka, Chittagong and Gazipur metropolitan areas, as well as Narayanganj, Gopalganj and Faridpur districts, to ensure public safety, maintain peace and order, and protect lives and property, it added.
The ministry's letter further said the decision was taken based on requests submitted by the respective deputy commissioners.
Letters seeking army deployment from the district administrations of Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur and Gopalganj were also attached to the correspondence.
All activities of the Awami League and its associated and affiliated organizations were banned on May 12, 2025, on allegations of killings, crimes against humanity, and other offences during the July uprising.
