The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a protest march in response to what it claims was an attack by the Chhatra Dal on students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet).

The protest march will take place at 7:30pm on Tuesday, in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University, as announced on the movement's Facebook page.

Earlier, two student groups clashed at Kuet over demands to ban student politics.

Eyewitnesses reported that, in the afternoon, students marched around the university halls chanting slogans such as "No student politics here at Kuet," "Our demand is one, a politics-free campus," and "No place for student politics on this campus."

The situation escalated when one group came into confrontation with another near the central mosque. A clash between the two groups soon ensued, which later spread to roads adjacent to Kuet. Tension currently prevails on the campus.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulna’s Khan Jahan Ali police station, Md Kabir Hossain, said: “Tensions arose between two student groups at Kuet, leading to a clash. We are working to control the situation.”

A central leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Abdul Hannan Masud, posted on Facebook, saying: “The brutal attack by Chhatra Dal, in the style of Chhatra League, a banned terrorist organization, marks their progress in politically burying their presence on campus.”
