BNP and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) have reached a consensus on a 10-point decision, including completing the necessary "minimum" reforms and holding an acceptable national election in a short period of time.
This decision came after a nearly two-hour meeting between Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, ameer of IAB, and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday, marking their first direct meeting.
They also agreed that no decisions will be made that go against Sharia.
After the meeting, Fakhrul said: "We have agreed on 10 points, including building a national consensus to protect all human rights, the right to vote, organizing fair and acceptable elections as soon as possible after completing the minimum necessary reforms, preventing the rise in prices, establishing the rights of all deprived people, and trying to bring law and order to a normal level."
In addition, all anti-fascist forces opposing the Awami League will work together to rebuild the country, he added.
Meanwhile, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, ameer of IAB, said that discussions with political parties will continue.
Regarding the elections, he said: "We have agreed with BNP to holding elections within a reasonable time frame of one to one and a half years, without unnecessary delays. Our main priority is a fair election within the next year, as six months have already passed."
BNP has taken the initiative to strengthen its unity with Islamic parties ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
The 10-point decision reached between BNP and Islami Andolan Bangladesh outlines several key demands.
The first is the establishment of national unity by creating an independent, sovereign, and democratic welfare state, free from foreign influence and imperialism.
They also demand the swift trial and exemplary punishment of corrupt individuals, terrorists, murderers, and money launderers.
The importance of building a national consensus to safeguard human rights, including the right to vote, is emphasized.
In addition, they call for the completion of necessary reforms and the organization of fair and acceptable elections as soon as possible.
Preventing price hikes, ensuring the rights of the deprived, and restoring normal law and order are also central to the agenda.
Moreover, all anti-Awami League forces are urged to work together to rebuild the country, and these forces are expected to maintain unity, ensuring that no other fascist force like the Awami League comes to power.
The decision also stipulates that no actions will be taken that go against Sharia.
Finally, they demand the immediate removal of individuals connected to Awami fascism still present within the administration.
