The Chairman of the Jatiya Party, Ghulam Muhammed Quader, has said that the current government is not neutral.
He expressed doubts about the government's ability to conduct a fair and acceptable election, mentioning that only a government formed through an acceptable election can free the country from the current deadlock and uncertainty.
He made these comments on Saturday while presiding over a meeting of the party's presidium members at his Banani office.
GM Quader said: “We raised the demand for constitutional reforms long ago. Reforms must take place in an elected parliament. No reform can be implemented without an elected parliament. If reforms are agreed upon by all political parties, they can be made acceptable in an elected parliament.”
He added: “The proposed reforms that have been made, which divide the country, are one-sided and not in line with reality. Therefore, we are not interested in the current reform proposals. We wish to work on the proposals through dialogue in an elected parliament.”
Commenting on the uncertainty the country is facing, Quader said: “No one knows what the future of the country will be. In such a situation, we must move forward with our politics.”
He added: “An election will take place, and we are preparing for it. However, the current government is discriminating against the Jatiya Party.”
Ghulam Muhammed Quader said: “With the support of the government, several political parties are dominating the political field, acting like ruling parties by maintaining close ties with the government. They are dividing the country in their pursuit of power and are attempting to delay the national election under various pretexts.”
He added: “On the other hand, widespread chaos, rising prices of essential goods, and the growing unemployment crisis are prevalent across the country. This is why more than half of the population has taken a stance against them.”
