Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan said that constitutional and fundamental structural reforms can only be finalized through elections.

He made these remarks on Saturday at a public dialogue titled “Establishing a New Democratic Political Framework,” organized by Ganosamhati Andolan’s Dhaka North and South branches at the National Press Club auditorium.

Zonayed Saki said: “The upcoming election will be for creating a new democratic constitution. We must deliberate on what fundamental changes will be made in the next parliament.”

He further said: “The next election will be for establishing a new framework. Therefore, we need to build a reform assembly and create public unity for that purpose. We urge the people of this country to come together to establish their rights.”

Additionally, he said: “The injured fighters of uprisings must be provided immediate medical treatment. The government must take responsibility for the families of martyrs and accord them state honors. At the same time, the soaring prices of essential goods must be controlled, as people are suffering due to high inflation.

"Various aspects of people’s lives are being jeopardized. The deteriorating law and order situation must be addressed, and there should be accountability for why law enforcement agencies are failing to ensure public safety,” he said.

Referring to the continuity of Bangladesh’s founding ideals, Saki said: “In 1971, our predecessors dreamed of a better future, and the youth realized those dreams. Today, in 2024, the youth have carried forward the realization of the dreams of 1971. The year 2024 is being positioned in opposition to 1971."

He added: "The nation of Bangladesh was born through bloodshed in 1971, and in 2024, the ideals of 1971 have been re-established. The continuity of 1971 lives on, and Bangladesh will proceed along that path.”
