Nur: Politics is not a feudal system

'To build a new Bangladesh, we need new politics and new leadership'

Update : 31 Oct 2024, 08:09 PM

Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gano Odhikar Parishad and former VP of Dhaka University's DUCSU, said that politics is not a feudal system.

“Just because someone is the son of a king does not mean they will be a king, nor will the son of an MP automatically become an MP, the son of a mayor become a mayor, or the son of a chairman become a chairman."

He made these remarks at a public reception held at the playground in Kalapara, Patuakhali, on Thursday evening.

Nur emphasized that the Gano Odhikar Parishad is working to ensure that the benefits of the changes brought about by the people's uprising, achieved at the cost of lives and blood, reach the general public.

"In the next year or within two years, parliamentary elections will be held. To build a new Bangladesh, we need new politics and new leadership. The Gano Odhikar Parishad is working to promote new political trend."

He further said: "In the 50-year history of Bangladesh, two political parties have alternated in power for 33 years. Those who have come to power have politicized the judiciary and law enforcement. Party leaders and activists have reaped the benefits, while ordinary citizens have not received the same opportunities. We will find ways to commercialize the promising Payra Port and thermal power plants to create employment opportunities."
