Hundreds of leaders and activists from the All European Awami League staged a vigorous demonstration in front of the European Union Headquarters in Brussels, holding Dr Yunus responsible for exacerbating the country's turmoil.
The protestors condemned Dr Yunus for his alleged inaction regarding the ongoing violence against Awami League leaders and activists, impunity for attackers, and failure to uphold law and order.
The demonstrators expressed frustration over the government's failure to prevent attacks on minority communities, the forced resignation of academics, the rise of mob rule, and the lack of concrete measures to bring perpetrators to justice.
They criticized Dr Yunus for remaining silent about the targeted violence perpetrated by BNP-Jamaat cadres over the past three weeks.
Nazrul Islam, president of the All European Awami League, highlighted the severity of the situation: “Since August 5, our leaders have been victims of violence orchestrated by the BNP-Jamaat combine. Our party leaders are being slaughtered, their homes attacked and looted, and their families subjected to physical assault. The violence is intensifying with no end in sight.”
Protestors questioned Dr Yunus's commitment to building an inclusive society and reforming the nation if he remained silent on these attacks and excluded the Awami League from dialogues.
They also criticized the ongoing purge of key state organs, including the judiciary, as a violation of the UN's call for reforms based on a vetting process.
The protestors carried banners with slogans such as “World Must Speak Up to End Mob Violence by BNP-Jamaat” and posters demanding “Fair Trial for Every Death Related to Violence.”
They expressed concern about the prospects for fair trials under the current regime and appealed to global powers to intervene to stop the attacks on detainees, the detention of party leaders, and the politicization of the judiciary.
They also called for an end to mob violence and the ongoing massacre of individuals opposing the BNP-Jamaat regime.
They demanded impartial investigations into every death resulting from the movement and criticized the filing of at least 269 cases targeting Awami League leaders and activists since August 5 as a tactic to imprison party leaders and suppress dissent.
The protest was led by M Nazrul Islam, president of the All European Awami League, and General Secretary Mujibur Rahman, with participation from activists and leaders from various EU countries.
They emphasized the need to address the ongoing forced removal of officials from key government positions and warned that these malpractices could undermine institutional integrity and law and order.
