The Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish has presented a six-point demand to the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The demands were put forward during a meeting with the chief adviser on Saturday afternoon.

Following the meeting, Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, secretary-general of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, briefed the press.

Mamunul Haque said: "We have demanded a thorough investigation and justice for the violence and killings that occurred during the student and public movements, including the May 5, 2013, incident at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.

“We have also urged for the resolution of all cases filed against leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam and allied groups within a month," he added.

Highlighting the chief adviser's call for cooperation, Mamunul Haque said: "We have expressed our commitment to assist the government. We have also demanded necessary reforms in all sectors, including the electoral system and administration, to ensure a fair election within a reasonable time frame."

The six-point demand presented by the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish is as follows:

Electoral Reforms
a. Reform the electoral system to ensure maximum representation of voters in national elections. This includes allocating parliamentary seats based on the total votes received by participating parties, not just the winning candidates.
b. Reform election laws to allow the Election Commission to manage the campaign and publicity for candidates, instead of candidates conducting their own campaigns. The Election Commission should be reconstituted with qualified, honest, and neutral individuals.

Constitutional Reforms
a. Decentralize the excessive power currently vested in the Prime Minister, which fosters authoritarianism, to create a balanced power structure.
b. Limit the tenure of any individual serving as Prime Minister to two terms.
c. Require the Prime Minister to resign from any party positions upon assuming office.
d. Allow Members of Parliament to vote independently, beyond party directives.

Judicial Reforms
Ensure the complete independence of the judiciary from the executive branch. Establish a Judicial Council to oversee the appointment and removal of judges, free from government interference.

Educational Reforms
Remove any controversial content from the educational curriculum that conflicts with Islamic teachings, and incorporate religious and moral education.

Police and Administration Reforms
Free the police and administrative services from government control, and prevent their use for political purposes.

Religious Laws
Ensure that no laws or policies are enacted that contradict the Quran and Sunnah.
