A case has been filed against suspended BNP organizational secretary Shama Obaid in connection with the murder of Kabir Bhuiyan, 50, in Nagarkanda, Faridpur.
The victim's wife, Monzila Begum, lodged the case at Nagarkanda police station around 1am on Saturday, accusing Shama of ordering the attack.
The case names 36 individuals as accused, with an additional 50-60 unidentified people mentioned.
Kabir Bhuiyan, a resident of Chagaldi in Nagarkanda Municipality, was a supporter of suspended Krishak Dal Central General Secretary Shahidul Islam.
According to the case statement, on August 21, around 11am, a road meeting organized by Shahidul Islam, also known as Babul, was scheduled to take place in front of the Nagarkanda petrol pump. Upon learning of the event, Shama Obaid allegedly instructed her supporters to disrupt the meeting, reportedly saying: "No matter what, people must die if necessary, but Shahidul's road meeting cannot take place. Whatever the cost in terms of murder or injury, I will take care of it and provide any money needed."
Following this, the accused allegedly attacked and killed Kabir with sharp weapons and iron rods.
Among the 36 accused in the case are Nagarkanda Upazila BNP Senior Vice-President Babul Talukdar, Secretary General Saifur Rahman Mukul, and his brother Masudur Rahman.
Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminur Rahman confirmed that the case had been filed, but no arrests had been made as of yet.
On August 21, Shahidul Islam's motorcade was scheduled to travel from Banga Chaurasta to Faridpur town via Nagarkanda Sadar Upazila and Talmar intersection. However, Shama Obaid's supporters allegedly attacked Shahidul's followers at Nagarkanda headquarters and then conducted armed exercises in the market to assert their dominance.
In response to the incident, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi signed two separate letters suspending both Shahidul Islam and Shama Obaid from all party positions, including their primary memberships in the BNP.
