His death brings the total number of suspected measles-related fatalities at the hospital to 18

Update : 31 May 2026, 09:34 PM

The number of deaths linked to suspected measles continues to rise in Faridpur, with an eight-month-old child dying while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The child, Tasim, from Jhenaidah, was admitted on May 29 with measles-like symptoms and died within the last 24 hours.

His death brings the total number of suspected measles-related fatalities at the hospital to 18.

According to the Faridpur Civil Surgeon’s Office, 91 new patients were admitted to government hospitals across the district over the past day, while 45 recovered and were discharged. A total of 183 patients are currently receiving treatment, including 118 children at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Health officials said most of the patients are children, and delayed vaccination and late medical consultation have contributed to severe complications in many cases. Authorities have mobilized doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers to provide round-the-clock care and ensure adequate supplies of medicines and equipment.

Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan said the recent surge may be linked to increased travel during the Eid holidays, as many families returned to their villages.
