State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Friday received the body of a Bangladeshi migrant worker killed in a missile attack in Iraq and handed over financial assistance to the bereaved family.
The body of Mohammad Shrabon, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker, was killed in a missile strike in Baghdad recently.
The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a Turkish Airlines flight at 4:45am on Friday under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad.
Shama Obaed Islam received the body on behalf of the government with profound sorrow and respect and expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family, said a foreign ministry press release.
Shrabon, son of Mohammad Noli Mia of Bakultala village under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, had been living and working in Baghdad for the past 10 years.
The body was transported from Baghdad International Airport on May 27 aboard Turkish Airlines Flight TK0843 and reached Dhaka after a transit in Türkiye.
Following completion of airport formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased's father, wife, and daughter.
On the occasion, the state minister provided Tk35,000 for transportation and funeral expenses, a special grant of Tk50,000, and other financial assistance on behalf of the government.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Wage Earners' Welfare Board were present at the airport.
