Update : 09 Aug 2024, 09:35 PM

The Bangladesh Hindu Jagran Mancha organized processions and rallies on Friday to protest against the recent vandalism, arson, looting, and attacks on the Hindu community across the country following the fall of Sheikh Hasina.

The Shahbagh intersection was blocked from 4pm to 7:20pm, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the area.

During the rally, the Hindu community presented a four-point demand: the establishment of a ministry of minorities, the formation of a minority protection commission, the implementation of strict laws to prevent attacks against minorities, and the allocation of 10% of parliamentary seats for minorities.

Protesters initially gathered in front of the National Press Club around 3pm before marching to the Shahbagh intersection.

They highlighted recent incidents, including the burning of four Hindu villages in Dinajpur, which has left many Hindus destitute and seeking refuge in border areas.

“We were born in this country. This country belongs to everyone. Hindus will not leave the country. This is also the birthplace of our ancestors. We didn’t fly here. This is nobody’s father's country. This is nobody’s husband’s country. We will not leave this country. Even if I die, I am not leaving my native land,” one of the speakers said.

In addition to the rally, a program titled “Moner Deyal” was held.

Participants wrote slogans on white paper expressing their views, with messages such as: “There is no need for religious education; let’s be educated in the education of humanity”, and “The country will be independent only when the nation is educated with good education.”
