Former state minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj issued a special call for unity and rebuilding the country in a video message on Wednesday, addressing the current political situation and demands for good governance.
In the video message, Sohel Taj said: "There is a need to end all violence and work together to rebuild the country."
He highlighted the damage caused by conflicts between the government and political opponents, which has led to numerous homes being burned and emphasized the need to protect the lives and property of ordinary people.
Sohel Taj called on the current government to bring those involved in corruption, murder, and abductions, including certain members of the administration and the Awami League, under the law. "Even an innocent Awami League activist has the right to live, and we must keep this in mind."
He said: "Attention must be given to the reforms that led to the protests. We must respect differing opinions and demand the establishment of voting rights in the country. To establish good governance, the rule of law must be ensured.
“This requires keeping the judiciary, administration, and police force free from political influence and developing law enforcement agencies as citizen-friendly and professional institutions," he added.
Taj emphasized the need for practical reforms in the education system, the removal of political influence from government institutions, ensuring communal harmony, and safeguarding fundamental rights.
He stressed the importance of taking steps to create a corruption-free society and being sincere in stopping abductions and murders.
He urged everyone to come forward to end the anarchy, warning that the country could face severe crises if the current situation continues.
Taj said: "We must collectively address this crisis, or Bangladesh will fall into a deep crisis. The damage done may never be repaired, but we must put an end to all vindictiveness now."
The former state minister concluded: "The message of the quota reform movement is clear: no ruler in Bangladesh can govern according to their whims. If good governance is not established, the youth of the country will rise again.
“The students and people of the country will not tolerate injustice. Let us end all violence and work together to rebuild the country. Bangladesh belongs to all of us," he added.
