Update : 03 Dec 2023, 02:46 PM

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that the party will not expel anyone who submitted nomination papers as an independent candidate to contest in the upcoming 12th national parliamentary polls.

He said this while responding to reporters at the Awami League president’s office in Dhaka at around 12:30pm.

Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said that many BNP leaders are taking part in the election because they do not want to support the BNP's negative politics.

The leaders of the 14-party alliance who are eligible to win will not be deprived of the nomination, said the Awami League leader.

While responding to a question regarding the decision of the United Nations not to send observers in the election, Obaidul Quader also said: "If the United Nations wants to talk about the internal affairs of a country, they need the approval of the general assembly and the security council."

Being asked about the reshuffle in administration, he said that the government is not making administrative changes, the Election Commission is transferring officials. Awami League has no objection in this regard.
