The ruling Awami League has reserved only one seat for Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasaul Haq Inu and another for Jatiya Party MP Selim Osman.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday announced the party candidates for 298 out of the 300 parliamentary seats, leaving Kushtia-2 and Narayanganj-5 vacant.
Hasanul Haq Inu and Selim Osman currently hold the seats in Kusthia-2 and Narayanganj-5, respectively.
Although Jasad is part of the Awami League electoral alliance, Jatiya Party is the opposition party in parliament.
Awami League has chosen candidates against every Jatiya Party MPs except Selim Osman.
In a letter to the Election Commission, four parties, including Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Samyabadi Dal, and Jatiya Party (Monju), expressed their desire to participate in the election with the Awami League's “boat” symbol.
Unlike previous elections since 2008, where Awami League allocated some nominations to its allied parties, this time the party has chosen candidates for almost every seat.
The Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, who has been the lawmaker for Dhaka-8 since 2008, was not nominated this time, with Awami League selecting its Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim for the constituency.
Awami League has also nominated candidates in districts such as Feni, Satkhira, Rajshahi, and Pirojpur, where the current MPs are from Awami League's electoral alliance.
However, party sources indicate that there may be some changes after discussions with alliance parties.
