Update : 25 Sep 2023, 04:17 PM

A rally organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP has begun in the capital’s Dholaikhal area on Monday.

The rally, demanding the resignation of the government, the establishment of a non-partisan government, and the release of political leaders and activists including Khaleda Zia, started at around 3pm.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to address the meeting as the chief guest.

A portable stage has been constructed on three pickup trucks.

Leaders and activists began arriving at the rally site as early as 12pm to take part in the event. They have filled the area with banners and festoons.

Meanwhile, the BNP has decided to postpone Monday's scheduled rally in Aminbazar after law enforcers allegedly dismantled the stage set up for the event.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP's media cell, confirmed the development.

The district leaders will meet at 3pm in the afternoon at the Naya Paltan central office to determine where and when they will reschedule the rally.

Dhaka district BNP General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury alleged that the stage was vandalized by Awami League activists around midnight on Sunday.
