Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) conducted a series of bomb attacks across Bangladesh on the orders of BNP’s Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
“BNP is the loyal patron of JMB which carried out the series of bomb attacks across the country when BNP was in state power in 2005. Tarique Rahman instructed simultaneous bombing in 63 districts. How long will you keep this truth a secret?” Quader asked at a rally arranged by Dhaka North city unit Awami League commemorating the August 17 bomb attacks in Dhaka’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
“A Canadian court has rejected the political asylum application of five BNP men. The court there says - this group is a terrorist group. This group is making vigorous efforts to overthrow a democratic government in the country. They cannot be given political asylum. US Homeland Security also denied political asylum to the three BNP men. BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir does not know this!” added Quader.
Awami League Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzaque said: “Awami League leaders and activists struggled in the past and risked their lives while confronting the terrorists. Let's take oath again today, we will eradicate these terrorists, militants, and enemies of the Liberation War’s spirit from the soil of Bangladesh.”
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said in the rally that the BNP-Jamaat coalition government wanted to turn Bangladesh into a militant state.
“The series of bombings across the country in 2005 is proof of that. Militants are their creations. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam is saddened by the arrest of the militants,” commented Hanif.
AFM Bahauddin Nasim, joint general secretary of Awami League, said BNP-Jamaat has started conspiracy again, and to end this, BNP-Jamaat must be stopped.
“BNP wants to give shelter to the militants to carry out bomb attacks in the country again,” added Nasim.
Dhaka North city unit Awami League President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman presided the rally and Awami League Presidium Member Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Dhaka South city unit Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi and General Secretary Humayun Kabir, Dhaka North city unit’s General Secretary SM Mannan Kachi among others addressed the rally.
