Terming the removal process of Reza Kibria from his party position illegal, Faruk Hasan, the joint convener of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has said a section of the party do not support the move by Nurul Haque Nur and his followers..
“We consider him (Reza Kibria) to be retained as the converner of the party”, he said.
“We also want to declare that those who fixed the day of the council, excluding Reza Kibria, are planning to push the party towards disintegration,” said Faruk.
He came up with the comment from a press conference organized under the banner of the Central Committee of Gono Odhikar Parishad at Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club on Thursday.
Faruk Hasan complained that since June 18, all the activities of Nurul Haq Nur are against the party's constitution and principles.
He said: “We are very sad to inform you that in recent times there is an unwanted situation in the party. In several cases, the democratic atmosphere within the party and the exercise of constitutional processes and justice have been disrupted, which has undermined the immense expectations of the people towards the party.”
On June 18, member secretary Nur made some complaints against party convener Dr. Reza Kibria. An emergency meeting of the party's central committee was held on the roof of Reza Kibria's house. There, Nur accused him of participating in a meeting of the Insaf Qayyem Committee and accepting money from them in violation of the party's organizational process. In response Dr Reza Kibria came up with his explanation.
He (Reza Kibria) claimed that the financial transaction was a lie and asked him (Nur) to produce the proof if there is any.
Recently, a group led by Nur, removed Reza Kibria from his post of the Gono Odhikar Parishad convener and replaced him with party joint convener Rashed Khan.
A press release, signed by party office secretary Shakil Uzzaman said, the decision was taken as the two-third members of the central committee supported the proposal for Reza's removal.
Reza Kibria, however, was not present at the meeting.
On October 26, 2021, Bangladesh Gono Odhikar Parishad was launched with Reza Kibria as its convenor and former Ducsu Vice Present Nurul Haque Nur as member secretary with the motto of restoration of democracy, establishment of justice, rights of people, and saving the national interests.
