Foreign Minister Dipu Moni is going to India Thursday to speak on Bangladesh-India relationship at the fourth RK Mishra Memorial Lecture organised by the New Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation.
“I will also meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and BJP leader Arun Jaitly,” Dipu Moni told the Dhaka Tribune Wednesday.
She will meet Manmohan, Khurshid and Jaitley Friday, said a source in the foreign ministry.
Teesta water sharing, ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement, border killings, the Tipaimukh dam project are the major issues to be discussed at the meetings with the three leaders, said the source.
Bangladesh and India were supposed to sign interim Teesta water agreement during the visit of Indian premier Manmohan Singh in Dhaka in 2011 but it could not be done because of strong resistance from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The source said the ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement needed two-thirds majority in the Indian parliament and the support of the BJP in this issue was important.
“The foreign minister will raise the issue when she meets BJP leader Arun Jaitly.”
Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran at a meet-the-press programme in June had said the UPA government had tried to table the bill in the last budget session but failed and the Indian authorities were likely to place the amendment bill in the monsoon session.
