Jamaat-e-Islami did not get permission to hold a mass rally in the capital on Friday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar told Bangla Tribune on Thursday: “We have not received any request from Jamaat about holding a mass rally. This matter is baseless.”

However, a person named Muhammad Saif, identifying as a representative from Jamaat's Dhaka Metropolitan South Publicity Department, said in a press release from the party's mail, that the Jamaat delegation had submitted a request to the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking permission and full cooperation to implement the December 30 mass rally in a peaceful and orderly manner.

It stated that the delegation went to the DMP office around 11am on Thursday. They formally handed over the letter to the concerned authorities and the DMP authorities accept it.
