Leaders and activists of the BNP are gathering on the Town Hall premises in Comilla city as the party is set to hold its eighth mass rally.
Those who could not join others earlier and those who had taken shelter in different places of Comilla were bringing out processions to march to the venue, with the rally scheduled to start later at 11am on Saturday.
Central leaders of the party are expected to address the rally in the afternoon.
Party leaders hoped the Comilla rally would turn out to be a success like the previous gatherings.
Md Sohail, a BNP leader from Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur, said he brought along with him 500 activists from his area in the morning. About 10,000 activists had come from the area earlier and the common public were also joining the rally, he added.
Yusuf Molla Tipu, member secretary of the BNP's Comilla city unit, said now the rally was no longer limited to Comilla Town Hall as it had spread across the city.
“There is no more standing space in and around the field. This sea of people proves that the people of Bangladesh no longer want this vote-rigging government. They want votes, they want rice, and above all they want to live,” he said.
This is the third mass rally the BNP is going to hold without any transport strike in effect during the event after the ones in Chittagong and Mymensingh.
The rally in Comilla will be the eighth one by the BNP, after arranging mass gatherings in Chittagong, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rangpur, Barisal, Faridpur and Sylhet.
Leaders hope to conclude the divisional rallies through a mass gathering in Dhaka city on December 10.
The Comilla district administration has allowed the BNP to hold the mass rally on the Comilla Town Hall ground on Saturday but has set some conditions the party will have to follow.
