Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury today urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to immediately make an announcement about restoring the caretaker government system to save the country from anarchy and possible civil war.
He also said the party activists will observe a token hunger strike from 8am to 5pm on May 4 in front of the National Press Club demanding restoration of the caretaker government system to oversee the next general elections.
At a press briefing at the National Press Club in the capital today, Prof Chowdhury also demanded that the government reinstates the caretaker system for the next two elections as per the Supreme Court ruling.
Expressing profound shock at the loss of lives in the Savar building collapse, the former president of Bangladesh also demanded that the government pays Tk1m as compensation to each of the families of the victims and bears all the relevant medical expenses.
The BDB chief also demanded high-profile judicial probe to identify those responsible for the incident and bringing them to justice.
When asked whether his party supports Hefazat-e-Islam’s demands or not, he replied in the negative, but admitted that his party arranged for drinking water during the Islamist outfit’s 6 April Dhaka rally.
BDB Secretary General Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan and Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury were present at the brief among others.
