Leaders of Haqqani Alem Samaj, an Islamic community, on Wednesday said that Hefazat-e-Islam tarnished the image of Islam through their destructive activities in the country.
Haqqani Alem Samaj leaders made the remarks at a press conference at the Sagar-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital’s Segunbagicha.
During the conference, they also called on the people to abandon some Hefazat leaders, describing them as “religious businessmen” who are said to be patrons of abominable activities in Islam.

In a written statement on behalf of the Haqqani Alem community, Mufti Ehsanul Haq Al Mojaddedi said that Islam never supports the way they (Hefazat-e-Islam) set fire to public and private buildings on March 25-28 and caused irreparable damages to human lives and property.
Hefazat-e-Islam carried out destructive and terrorist activities across the country from March 25-26 in the name of defending Islam on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.

Mufti Ehsanul Haque called on the people to abandon the so-called religious scholars of Hefazat.
He lauded the relentless efforts of the concerned administration for arresting the perpetrators in order to bring them to justice for their wrongdoings, lies and fraud.
Dr Kafil Uddin Sarkar Salehi, Maulana Mohiuddin Farooqui and Mufti Dr AK Abdul Momin Siraji were also present on the occasion, among others.
