BNP candidate Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that his polling agents were driven out of different polling centres during the Dhaka-5 by-polls.
“When the BNP agents went to Centre No 9 at Jatrabari Government Primary School in Ward 50, they were forced out of the school premises,” the BNP candidate said on Saturday.
He also claimed, despite Awami League polling agents being present in all centres, BNP polling agents have been kicked out from 95% centres in presence of police.
Mitu Akhter, coordinator of BNP in Ward 50, complained that AL supporters were not allowing them to stand at the centre.
“By kicking out the BNP polling agents from the centres and creating unrest in the area, a frightening situation has been created for voters. They are now afraid to come to the polling stations,” he added.
He also warned that instead of a boycott, a movement to oust the government will start from the centres till the end of the election.
Salahuddin said: "The Election Commission has not been able to hold a fair election so far. So, I think today's election will not be fair either."
On the contrary, Dhaka-5 Awami League candidate Kazi Monirul Islam Manu said: “Voting is going on smoothly, I am optimistic about winning.”
