Tributes and condolences continue to pour in for Awami League presidium member, 14-party alliance spokesperson, and former health minister Mohammed Nasim, who breathed his last this morning at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 72.
Immediately after his demise, people from all walks of life, as well as different political parties and leaders, expressed their shock and sent condolences, reports BSS.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Nasim, son of Captain M Mansur Ali, one of the four national leaders.
The president said Nasim’s death is really an irreparable loss for the national politics of Bangladesh.
Recalling Nasim’s outstanding contribution to the country’s politics with due respect, Hamid said he was a fearless fighter in all the democratic movements of the country, including the freedom struggle and the Liberation War.
The President prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and convoyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In her condolence message, the prime minister recalled Nasim’s contribution to people’s welfare, saying: “Mohammed Nasim, like his father, worked for the welfare of the country, and the nation being inspired by the ideology of the Father of the Nation”.
He played a significant role in establishing the spirit of the Liberation War and the communal harmony in the country by facing all sorts of hurdles, Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, said.
“Bangladesh has lost a true patriot and a pro-people leader, and I have lost a co-warrior,” the prime minister said, adding that Nasim will be remembered for his services and efforts for the welfare of the country.
She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Besides, in separate condolence messages, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury condoled the death of veteran politician Mohammed Nasim.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Former health minister Mohammed Nasim passed away at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka’s Shyamoli area this morning. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 1.
The veteran politician tested positive for Covid-19. He was found Covid-19 negative in the second and third tests.
He also suffered a stroke and had undergone a successful surgery at the hospital.
