BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said in order to free Khaleda, BNP will not seek any permission from the authorities for holding programs.

He said this at a protest rally demanding the release of Khaleda Zia, held in front of the BNP office at Naya Paltan on Sunday.

At the rally, BNP leaders claimed that the only way to free their chairperson Khaleda Zia is through mass uprising as the government is influencing the court.

Fakrul said: “From now on, we have only one goal, and that is to free Khaleda Zia from jail through a mass uprising.”

He alleged that Khaleda had no involvement in corruption, and the government put her behind bars for political reasons.

BNP will create a mass uprising through mass movement, he added.

BNP Standing Committee members, president, and secretary of all associated organizations were present at the rally along with approximately 10,000 party activists.

Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.

Later in the same year, she was also convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, though her party claims both cases were politically motivated.

The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1.
