Sylhet mayor receives death threat over phone

Apart from the threats the caller also used profane language

Death threats were made to Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury over anonymous phone calls yesterday morning.

Following the incident, the mayor's Public Relations Officer Shahabuddin Shihab filed a general diary (GD) on behalf of the mayor with Kotwali police station, confirmed the police station OC MD Selim Mia. OC Selim said that police are looking into the matter.

The GD stated that the anonymous caller repeatedly phoned the mayor from a Grameenphone, and Banglalink number around 10 am, and uttered death threats while using profane language.

The statement raised concerns for the mayor's security, and requested a speedy investigation.

Mayor Ariful said: "Apart from the profanity, the caller have used words like "we will end you" and "take away your chair," but I am not much worried about these threats."
