President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Oli Ahmed has warned that BNP's elected MPs will be treated as frauds if they join the 11th parliament.
Oli made the remark on Saturday at the National Press Club, speaking at a discussion arranged by the Labour Party, one of the components of the BNP-led 20-parry alliance, , demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail, reports UNB.
He said: "We've turned down the election. We hope BNP's elected MPs will not deceive and betray the nation by joining the parliament.
“If they go to parliament, we'll think that will be a deception with the nation and with those who participated in the election, and those who went to jail.”
BNP's two alliances --Jatiya Oikya Front and the 20-party-joined the December 30 general election and bagged only eight seats, including BNP's six and Gono Forum's two.
Oli, also the chief coordinator of the 20-Party Alliance, alleged that the ruling party committed vote robbery in the election. "It was the worst election. Awami League won't be able to remove the stigma of holding such polls."
He called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take steps for re-election through discussions with political parties to save the country. Or else, he warned, the country will be pushed towards anarchy and bloodshed.
Referring to the prime minister’s call for a national unity, Oli urged Sheikh Hasina to admit the offences they committed in the election, and then to engage in talks with political parties to forge national unity.
"Are we working against country and people? We belong to national forces and we're freedom fighters. If our goal is the same, why won't we be able to resolve the country's problems through discussions?" he added.
Claiming that the ruling party spent thousands of crores of taka in the general election, Oli called upon the Anti-Corruption Commission to look into the sources of the money of Awami League leaders.
About Khaleda Zia's imprisonment, the LDP president said it will not be possible to have the BNP chief freed from jail only by giving speeches at indoor meetings.
He called upon all to come forward to wage a movement to free Khaleda from jail.
Oli also urged the government to release Khaleda, considering her age, social and political position, and family background.
