PM to sit with JaPa November on 5

Earlier, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, seeking permission for a dialogue with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

Update : 31 Oct 2018, 01:03 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will sit with Jatiya Party members on Monday, November 5.

Awami League Information and Research Secretary Adv Azfal Hossain confirmed the news on Wednesday , saying that the meeting will take place at 7pm at the prime minister's official residence Ganabhaban.

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), seeking permission for a dialogue with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, the party’s Presidium member Sunil Shuvo Roy said he handed the letter to PMO personal secretary-1 (official) around 12:15pm on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury sent a letter to Sheikh Hasina seeking dialogue. He also appreciated the prime minister's decision on holding talks with political parties.

Jatiya Oikya Front also welcomed Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina’s decision to hold a dialogue with the newly formed political alliance today, over the upcoming 11th general election.

BNP has long been urging its arch-political rival, Awami League, to hold a dialogue, but their calls were always rejected.

Prior to the 10th parliamentary polls, then United Nations assistant secretary general for political affairs Oscar Fernandez-Taranco had visited Dhaka to mediate a dialogue between the two parties in December 2013.

During his visit, he had met with the Awami League, BNP, Election Commission, civil society leaders and diplomats. But, BNP later boycotted the election.

The prime minister’s latest decision to hold a dialogue with Oikya Front leaders, who will include leaders from BNP, over the national polls is a new development that comes at a time when BNP chief Khaleda is in jail following her conviction in a corruption case.
