Newly-elected mayors of Rajshahi, Sylhet sworn in

The ceremony was held at Shapla Hall of the prime minister's office on Wednesday

Newly elected Mayors of Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporations AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Ariful Haque Chowdhury have taken their oath of office.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath swearing ceremony, held at the Shapla Hall of her office, on Wednesday, reports UNB. 

Afterwards, 76 newly-elected councillors from the general wards and reserved seats, of the two city corporations, swore their oath at the same venue. Among them were 40 councillors from Rajshahi and 36 from Sylhet.

Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives administered the oath to the councillors. Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan of the Local Government Division presided over the oath-taking ceremony. 

Finance Minister AMA Muhith and General Secretary of Awami League, and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader were also present during the event. 

Rajshahi City Corporation and Sylhet City Corporation elections were held on July 30 of this year. 

Awami League mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was elected in Rajshahi city, while BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury was victorious in Sylhet city.
