Jamaat announces Ducsu VP Shadik Kayem as DSCC mayoral candidate

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced Shadik Kayem, vice president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu), as its mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation.

The announcement was made at a program organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday (May 1) at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh council hall in Kakrail, the capital.

Leaders and activists of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat-e-Islami attended the event. Shadik Kayem was also present but did not make any immediate comment.

According to party sources, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will formally announce his candidacy within 1–2 days. Another reliable party source claimed that Sadik Kayem recently transferred his National Identity Card (NID) from Khagrachhari to Dhaka voter rolls with the aim of contesting the DSCC mayor election.

He has not yet begun a major public campaign. However, he is maintaining regular contact with party leaders and activists and continuing organizational activities.

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and head of the central publicity and media department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair said candidates have been finalized for both city corporations in Dhaka and will be announced formally within 1–2 days.
