Update : 21 Apr 2018, 04:57 PM
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “We are getting news that Khaleda Zia’s health is steadily getting worse. The party as well as the country are concerned about the matter.” Mirza Fakhrul made the statement on Saturday at a press conference held at BNP's Naya Paltan headquarters. The BNP Secretary General said: “On April 18 Khaleda’s family members and some members of the BNP standing committee went to visit Khaleda Zia. They did not allow us to see her; we were turned away by the prison authorities. They did not show us any plausible reason for it either. Khaleda Zia’s family could not meet her for 10 days. They were extremely concerned about her health and wellbeing.” “The medical board created by the government took Khaleda to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and did some tests. They advised her to be taken to an orthopaedic doctor. But the prison authorities have not done that yet,” he said. He also said that the BNP chairperson is suffering from complications regarding acute rheumatic arthritis. “We demand that Khaleda be taken to specialist hospitals. It has become imperative to do some blood tests and MRI tests for the sake of her health,” he said. Among others, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan were present at the press conference.
