Update : 22 Mar 2018, 01:30 PM
The grassroots leaders and activists of BNP are ready to launch a movement aiming to free party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail, and they are also preparing for the upcoming 11th general election. BNP leaders and activists throughout Bangladesh have organizational and mental preparation to follow any directive put forth the by party’s policy makers. The BNP central command has the final say about setting the action plan. Speaking to the correspondent on March 20, a number of BNP leaders revealed that they are making serious preparations for both the movement to free Khaleda Zia and the next general election at their own constituencies. Many nomination seekers from the BNP have launched their electoral campaign, to go head to head with aspirants from other political parties. But, the decision to participate in the next parliamentary polls will be made by the BNP high command. The grassroots leaders believe that if the BNP participates in the polls, and if the election is held fairly, it will secure a victory. However, the party men and women are putting more emphasis on the movement to free Khaleda, until further notice from the central. BNP Chief Khaleda Zia has been in prison since February 8, following her conviction in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The party is being run by acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the standing committee. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is coordinating the party activities. Grassroots leaders have expressed their full trust on the current BNP leadership. The grassroots will go along with the decision of the central leaders, be it the electoral campaign or the movement to free Khaleda Zia.
