The BNP leader said: “I don’t believe that Awami League want democracy and it is totally impossible to hold a free and fair poll under the ruling party biased incumbent Election Commission.”
Criticising the EC’s activities, he said: “No free or fair election will be possible under this Election Commission. It must go. Its officials must resign.”
Rizvi made the comment while addressing a programme to commemorate 30th death anniversary of Abu Raihan Jaglu at Shaheed Minar premises in Tangail by Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal (JCD).
“The newly appointed chief election commissioner is a shadow of Awami League’s blueprint,” he said.
Rizvi lambasted Awami League led government saying that the party already buried the democratic practice in the country and tied up the freedom of speech of people.
The programme was organised by the district Chhatra Dal remembering the death of JCD leader Abu Raihan Jaglu. Jaglu was shot dead in a procession protesting hike of bus fare during the Ershad regime in 1987.
District Chhatra Dal President Khandaker Rashedul Alam, central BNP leader Sorafat Ali Sopu, Abdus Salam Azad and district unit leaders also spoke in the event.
