Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders in Feni were prompt to implement the central committee's decision to form school committees, only to land in dilemma after Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed his disapproval of the move.
Speaking at a discussion at Bangla Academy on Saturday, Obaidul Quader asked the BCL leaders not to proceed with the idea of school committees, saying: “This is not the right time to consider forming the school committees. We do not need to invite criticism.”
By the time the Awami League general secretary came up with the stance, at least 139 school committees have been formed under the supervision of the leaders of the Feni BCL's district and upazila units.

The BCL leaders are now awaiting the direction of their central committee to decide the fate of the newly formed school committees.
Feni district unit BCL President, Salah Uddin, told Dhaka Tribune: “It would not be wise to make any comment before getting the BCL central committee's decision over it.”
Dagonbhuiyan upazila unit BCL President Abu Naser Chowdhury Asif said: “Students are generally attracted to organizations from the secondary level. If the Chhatra League committees (at secondary schools) are abolished as per the centre's decision, it would not make a difference as the activities of other organizations would not stop at the schools.”
In that case, the government must ensure that no other organisation can form school committees, he recommended.
