The injured was – Israil Haque Sarkar, 48, president of Sabgram union unit Awami League and son of late Yunus Ali Sarkar, hailed from Sadar upazila.
Quoting witnesses police said a group of six-seven people equipped with sharp weapons carried out attacks on Israil and hacked him indiscriminately in the area around 2pm where he was returning home with his motorbike, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing his screams locals rescued him and sent him to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College. Later, he was shifted to Dhaka as he condition was deteriorating.
Monir Haque Sardar, elder brother of the victim and office secretary of Sechcha Sebak League, Bogra unit, said: “Jammat-BNP men might have carried out the attack.”
Sub-inspector Shofiqul Islam, in charge of Naruli police camp, confirmed the incident.
