BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has advised the party to engage in peaceful demonstrations for pressing home its demands regarding the upcoming 11th general election, which is due by early 2019.
She made the recommendation at a meeting in Dhaka last Wednesday night, which was attended by senior leaders of BNP-led 20-party alliance.
A number of senior leaders that attended the meeting, told the Bangla Tribune that the BNP chief has directed the alliance to use the term “political programme” instead of “movement”.
Party insiders said Khaleda Zia asked the leaders to put “more emphasis” on the Rohingya issue, and discussed the current situation in the country’s judiciary.
The alliance leaders also recommended that Khaleda Zia should focus on more people-oriented political programmes.
Responding to a query about the meeting, Maulana Ishak, chairman of Khelafat Majlish, said: “This was the first meeting the BNP chief held with us, after returning from her London visit. She discussed matters related to politics in the meeting.”
BNP Secretary General and also the alliance coordinator Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat executive council member Maulana Abdul Halim and Bangladesh
Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partho were present among many others in the meeting.
However, no representatives from the Kalyan Party and Labour Party were present there. This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
