“We are capable of dealing with any unexpected situation during the elections and I can assure you that NCC polls will be totally fair and free,” the CEC said these yesterday in a view exchange meeting at Narayanganj Club Limited Auditorium with officials of law enforcing agencies, mayoral and councilor candidates, returning officers and EC officials over of NCC election, slated to be held on December 22.
In the meeting, candidates and law enforcement agencies’ officials upheld their views before the CEC. After knowing candidates’ and officials’ views the CEC said: “Candidates and law enforcers should be aware that no one can threaten minorities.”
Asking law enforcers’ agencies to take actions immediately upon any information of violating electoral rules and harassment the CEC said: “We will not tolerate any irregularity in NCC polls.”
Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mobarak and Mohammad Abu Hafiz, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin, DIG of Police, Dhaka Range SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, BGB Lt Colonel Md Shamim Iftekhar, RAB-11 CO Lt Colonel Kamrul Hasan and mayoral candidates were present at the meeting.
Among the mayoral candidates BNP-backed mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan and Kamal Pradhan demanded army deployment.
Helaluddin said: “We have already deployed 27 executive magistrates at 27 wards in NCC and the number of magistrate will be increased if necessary.”
SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman said: “We will do everything what is needed to arrange a fair and free election.”
Shamim Iftekhar said: “We will deploy three platoons of BGB in city, Bandor and Siddheswari areas to ensure security during election and more eight platoons of BGB will be worked as reserve forces.”
Kamrul Hasan said: “Some 35 patrol teams of RAB will work across the city.”Ivy invites Shakhawat for sweetSelina Hayat Ivy in her speech expressed her interested to take sweet with Shakhawat in the next morning of the election. She also assured that she will accept the election result.
She said: “If I win in the election then Shakhawat vai is invited in my house to take sweet with me. If he will then I will go his house to feed him sweet at next morning of the election.”
