The High Court has granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, in five cases, including four murder cases, filed in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.

A High Court bench led by KM Zahid Sarwar delivered the order on Thursday.

Senior lawyer Sara Hossain appeared for Ivy during the hearing, along with Advocate Hridoy Rahman.

Earlier, in November last year, the High Court had granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases, including the murder of garment worker Minarul Islam, filed over incidents during the anti-discrimination student movement.

However, the Appellate Division later stayed the bail in all five cases. She was subsequently shown to be arrested again in those cases. In May last year, the court rejected her bail petition in the Minarul Islam murder case.

According to the case records, Minarul Islam was shot on the evening of July 20, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement in the Adamjee area.

He was taken to the 300-bed Narayanganj Hospital in Khanpur, where doctors declared him dead. He was buried at his village home the following day.

On September 23, Minarul’s brother filed a murder case with Siddhirganj police station, naming Sheikh Hasina and 131 others, along with 300 unnamed accused.

Selina Hayat Ivy was listed as the 12th accused in the case.
